More than a year ago, Hogg Foundation awarded LSA funding to develop a program to promote the bonding between parents and teen youth, and to improve the mental wellbeing in minority youth. After a year and half worth of preparation, LSA invited AYLUS Pearland along with other youth organizations to test their pilot program.
On September 24, AYLUS Pearland members went to the Pearland Chinese Church to attend the Bridging the Gap Intergenerational Connectivity Program. The program began with a presentation and an introduction to the topic. Then, games were given to help families members to understand
each other better, build trust, and communicate easily while dealing with any problems. Throughout the games the presenters explained each event and their topics more. The presentation continued with mental health and turning conflict into understanding. The program served as a great way for families to bridge the gaps between them and communicate more successfully while having fun. The
participants filled out an initial survey as a baseline and another survey to collect the feedback at the end of the event. A month later, one more survey will be conducted among participants to track the progress.
