Chapel Hill Branch member Matthew Guo donated his special gift to Kits to Heart on Sep 10, 2022. In order to make an intricately patterned design for a special gift to cancer patients, Matthew constructed a custom Kumihimo frame. Kumihimo is traditional Japanese art, its name literally meaning “gathered threads”. For this particular braided cord, 32 threads were used to tie a total of around 3000 half hitch knots, creating a densely filled and high-quality product. The actual design was planned out on a spreadsheet with the colors of the logo and the logo design transposed onto a n x 8-pixel grid. The total bracelet is 18 inches long and used a total of around 70 meters of thread. Mattew hopes that this thoughtful gift shows his support to cancer patients and helps them feel loved!
