“AYLUS Greater Triangle 09/05/2022 Leads Petition for Safer Access to Panther Creek High School: Installation of Crosswalks and Traffic Rules Urged for Changning Park Community”

n order to make the community safer for students and residents, AYLUS Greater Triangle NC, under the leadership of President Sky Tianyi Han and Co-President Michael Yang, organized an event to install crosswalks and traffic rules in Panther Creek High School and Channing Park community.

The planning and implementation of the event began in August, with the goal of urging the Channing Park community to install crosswalks and traffic rules to make it safer for students and residents to enter Panther Creek High School. Starting on September 5th, volunteers went door to door to collect signatures, which lasted for a week. Despite the hot weather and some resistance from new residents to the installation of sidewalks, which needed to be explained, the volunteers overcame these challenges and received praise from the residents. In addition, new high school students in the community also joined AYLUS to help collect signatures.

The petition calls for the construction of a crosswalk between Panther Creek High School and Channing Park community. Panther Creek High School 11th grade student Michael Yang and 10th grade student Sky Tianyi Han represented all residents of Channing Park in the petition. The petition included signatures from nearly 100 households.

The main reason for the event was that it is difficult for both current and new students to walk to the community and enter the school from PCHS. Installing crosswalks will make the crossing between the two areas easier and safer. Channing Park is a new community located across the street from Panther Creek High School, with a total of 296 households (as of 2022). Since the school is close to the community, Panther Creek High School does not provide buses to our community, so students must walk or drive to school. This increases the likelihood of traffic congestion. In addition, Panther Creek High School has more than 2,800 students, which leads to traffic congestion at the two school gates during peak hours, making it difficult for students to arrive on time.

If students choose to walk to school, the route is unclear. They have to cross the road in crowded traffic, which is very dangerous for them, especially during peak hours in the morning. If they are hit by a careless driver, the risk of accidents is high. Therefore, the petition seeks to address these issues by installing crosswalks and traffic rules.

The benefits of installing crosswalks and traffic rules are significant. For students, it provides a safer route to school, ensuring their safety. For families, knowing that their children are safe on their way to school makes them worry-free. For schools, it reduces the number of vehicles entering and exiting the school, eases congestion, and ensures normal class time. Finally, it benefits the community and nearby residents, making the area’s traffic easier and safer, and promoting a peaceful and harmonious ecological environment.

Overall, the movement initiated by AYLUS Greater Triangle NC, led by President Sky Tianyi Han and Co-President Michael Yang, has made significant progress in providing a safer community for students and residents. Crosswalk construction needs extensive support from the community residents.

Recently, residents of Channing Park launched a petition campaign to set up a crosswalk between Panther Creek High School and Channing Park community. Their aim is to address the traffic problems and safety hazards encountered by students and residents walking or driving to school and the community. According to residents, there is currently a lack of pedestrian crossings in the area’s intersections.
