On Saturday, September 3, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, the Roslyn Branch of AYLUS volunteered at the Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) greenhouse.
We transferred plants to larger pots to free up more room for them to grow. Not separating the plants would lead to the soil running out of nutrients and most plants will wilt while a few strong plants survive. One of the plants we up-potted was the cardinal flower. The larger ones went into rounded pots while the smaller ones were transferred to trays. Soon the taller ones with more leaves would blossom into red flowers. The highlight of the day was spray painting the rounded, flower pots black. Due to regulations, pots with a label cannot be sold and therefore needed to be covered up.
