On Thursday, April 7th, members from the AYLUS Columbus Branch attended a training session in order to volunteer in the City of Dublin’s Water Quality Monitoring Initiative. Members Dustin He, Kevin Wang, and Rachel Zhu attended the training session at Coffman Park where they learned how to operate equipment to monitor local bodies of water. There were two pieces of equipment that they learned to operate: one to measure salinity levels and one to measure dissolved oxygen levels. High levels of salinity could signify a high concentration of unhealthy chemicals in the water, and high levels of dissolved oxygen are a sign of healthy streams. The volunteers plan to train the rest of the branch members and use the monitoring equipment in future events to collect data from Dublin streams and ponds in order to measure water health.
