On 4/10/22, AYLUS Syosset members volunteered with wildlife authorities at Bethpage State Park to plant Broomsedge grass alongside a pathway nearby an elementary school. After the Broomsedge were taken out of their pots and situated into the ground, layers of Broomsedge containing seeds were strewn throughout the entire area. Throughout the event, over 350 plants were placed alongside the pathway.
Broomsedge are a type of grass native to prairies on Long Island. In this event, the grasses were placed alongside the perimeter of the forest and the path to act as a buffer zone in order to prevent vegetation and weeds from the forest from entering the future garden that will be placed in the area.
Members who participated include: Feilei Li(3 hours), Johnny Zhang(3 hours), Ryan Leung (3 hours), Jasmine Chen (3 hours), Aika Suizu(3 hours), Julia Jia and James Chen.
