AYLUS Pearland in Ed White Elementary’s Saturday Tutoring Program, December 11

On Saturday, December 11, 2021, AYLUS Pearland volunteers went to Ed White elementary school tutoring students who were 5th grade and under. Tutor subjects include math, reading and writing. Volunteers were divided into several groups to host different stations in the cafeteria for students to rotate. Stations combined games and learning together in order for students to play and learn at the same time. Stations stimulated students’ interest in learning and deepen their understanding of various knowledge. Volunteers helped the students to keep focus on topic and gave help to students when they encounter difficulties or ask for help. Volunteers modeled their thinking and set examples for students, helped students to understand what to do when meet different kinds of problems. Students at each station rotated every thirty minutes to try different subjects and area. Students mastered the knowledges that corresponds to each station and kept patience during learning. Volunteer tutor event last 3 hours from 9 am to 12 noon plus 1 hour commute time.
