In December, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their Education Help Program. Although schools are restarting, some middle school students are still looking for tutoring classes to improve their academic skills in classes like math, science, writing or reading. Because of this, GPA is holding tutoring opportunities in core subjects.
GPA member Catherine Feng tutored her student in reading on Sunday (12/19) from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The student read three books: one about animals, one about footprints in snow, and one about elephants. We went over the pronunciation and meaning of the words they read before discussing the content of the books.
GOA member Catherine tutored her student in math on Monday (12/20) from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. This week, we focused on sequences. First, we looked at Fibonacci sequences and worked on problems involving them. Next, we looked at some algebraic sequences and solved problems involving finding the rules for that sequence and finding the value for the nth terms of the sequence.
GPA member Catherine Feng tutored a student in reading on Thursday (12/30) from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. The student read two books: one was about friends catching bugs and the other was about the different parts of plants. We discussed the contents and messages of the books.
GPA member Catherine Feng tutored another student in reading on Friday (12/31) from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. The student read two books about animals: one about the colors of animals and what they mean and one about animals at night. We went over the pronunciation and meaning of the words they read before discussing the content of the books.
More GPA members tutored their students.
The program allows GPA members to provide reading, writing, speaking, communication, and more to their students across the country.
