At the end of July, AYLUS Pearland hosted a fundraiser to support the Dawson High School tennis team. AYLUS Pearland members donated a variety of clothes, household appliances, and more to the fundraiser. We also received items such as bikes, small furniture, and baby items from the community. The original plan was to have a large on-site sale, but because of COVID precautions and safety measures, it was cancelled and moved to an online sale using social media platforms like Facebook, NextDoor and Houston BBS. A group of junior members also hosted a small-scale sale in person. The volunteers delivered the items to Ms. Sasa’s house the day before the sale. They also set up garage sale signs at road intersections in the early morning of July 31st and started sorting and setting up all the items. The clients started to arrive at around 7am, and by 11am, they had sold many items and raised a total of $350.
The online sale also went very well. Items posted on Facebook received a lot of inquiries and once a price was negotiated, volunteers left the items at the buyers’ front doors. The fundraiser raised a total of $1100 to support Dawson High School’s tennis team. They will use the money to purchase supplies and equipment for their tennis courts.
