On 8/24/2021, members of the Syosset AYLUS branch (Aika Suizu, Simon Koide and John Thach) taught a sixty-minute Japanese class to multiple high school students, each with differing degrees of proficiency and familiarity with the Japanese language and culture. The establishment of this class seeks to permeate the interest and knowledge in Japanese culture and language throughout society.
Class started with a review of some vocabulary centered around vehicles and transportation. Words included kuruma, which means car as well as Densha, which means train. Common adjectives were also taught, which include words for handsome, good, and difficult.
Teachers reviewed these adjective rules in Japanese, highlighting the differences between I and na adjectives.
Lastly, a short practice quiz was administered where the students were asked to conjugate different adjectives in sentences.
The following students volunteered in today’s tutoring program: Aika Suizu (1.5 hour), Simon Koide, and John Thach (1.5 hour).
