This summer, the AYLUS Pearland Branch began teaching their dance classes virtually through
Zoom. Each class was an hour long and one class was held per week. Three volunteers served the
community by scheduling class, choreographing dances, choosing songs, teaching class, recording
practice videos, and communicating with parents. In each class, the volunteers started off with a stretch and review then gradually moved to teaching the main dance. Occasionally, we would split the students into breakout rooms based on their ability to learn the choreography to ensure that everyone’s needs were met. Within the past lessons, students were able to learn dances to songs like Butter by BTS.
The dedication and passion of the AYLUS Pearland Branch volunteers shine brightly through their virtual Dance Lessons. Despite the challenges posed by remote learning, these volunteers have seamlessly adapted to the online platform, ensuring that each student receives a fulfilling and engaging dance experience. Through interactive Zoom sessions, the volunteers have successfully created a supportive and inclusive environment where children can explore the art of dance and express themselves creatively. From stretching and review exercises to teaching captivating choreographies, every class is thoughtfully structured to cater to the unique needs and abilities of each student. The volunteers’ commitment to encouraging facial expressions and fostering a sense of enjoyment highlights their understanding that dance is not just about mastering steps but also about embracing the joy and emotional connection it brings. With their dedication to encompassing various dance styles and levels, the AYLUS Pearland Branch volunteers are truly igniting a passion for dance within their students, and the impact of these virtual Dance Lessons extends far beyond the virtual classroom walls.
In addition to teaching classes, volunteers were committed to motivate students to show facial
expressions and to have fun. Our goal was to introduce the art of dancing to children and to bring joy to students through dance. The volunteers worked hard to encompass all the different styles and levels of dance within our students.
The teacher volunteers were: Julia Wu, Cordelia Li, and Joyce Zhang.
