Over the course of July and August, eleven AYLUS volunteers tutored fifteen students ranging from first grade to sixth grade. Lessons happened twice a week: once on Friday mornings and once on Saturday nights. During each lesson, tutors focused on a variety of general mathematics topics that were tailored to each individual group of students. The volunteers and students were split into two groups as well: one group featuring students from grades one through three, and the other group featuring students from grades four through six. In total, there have been more than twelve lessons in total (7/2, 7/3, 7/9, 7/10, 7/16, 7/17, 7/23, 7/24, 7/30, 7/31, 8/6, 8/7), and each time the volunteers build upon the previous lessons to teach something new to the children. Both the kids and the teachers were left with valuable experiences that changed them for the better.
The volunteers include: Jayden Lu, Eric Qi, Catherine Bai, Matthew Li, Jonathan Niu, Matthew Niu, Ayyan Rehman, Elizabeth Hu, Sasha Kuzmenko, Jason Chen, and Leo Jiang.
