In July and August 2021, AYLUS Pearland continued to offer free group reading lessons to more than 20 students. These students ranged from first to fifth grade, and each student was assigned a class based on their grade level. These classes were held on Sundays and Mondays from 7 to 8pm, and there were 10 total lessons in July and August (7/11/2021, 7/12/2021, 7/18/2021, 7/19/2021, 7/25/2021, 7/26/2021, 8/1/2021, 8/2/2021, 8/8/2021, 8/9/2021). In preparation for each class, the AYLUS Pearland volunteers created lesson plans using reading materials from Reading A-Z and several other websites. These lesson plans kept the students engaged and entertained throughout the class while simultaneously allowing the students to advance their reading, writing, and verbal skills. Ultimately, all the students improved upon their reading skills through this class, and they will continue to become better readers and writers throughout the rest of the summer.
Volunteers include: Thomas Liang, Karen Xu, Jerry Tong, Jason Chen, Fred Guo, Bharat Salvady, Amy Miao, and Howard Shi
