Greater Princeton AYLUS Sports Committee Hosts Chess Camp (44th-45th) for Beginners in July 2021

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continues chess classes every Monday and Tuesday for beginners along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October 2020.

GPA continues classes every Monday along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October. During class, the students looked at different openings and reviewed the key principles to achieve a good starting position. After class, there is always time to play variant games against each other to practice the skills we have learned in class in an actual game. Having learned a variety of skills, the students are improving their visualization, tactic, and position skills.

GPA has started a summer camp for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday night. During class, we reviewed what the pieces are called, how to set up the chessboard, notation, how the pieces moved and learned 3/4 of the opening principles. After class, the students went on their chess.com accounts and played games for 20 minutes in celebration of International Chess Day.

We will host another Chess Tournament on August 7, 2021 from 2 to 3 pm EST.

Participants: Sarah Yan (7/19, 7/20, 2 hrs each), Erick Yan (7/19, 7/20, 2 hrs each).
