The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continues chess classes every Monday and Tuesday for beginners along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October 2020.
GPA continues classes every Monday along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October. During class, the students looked at different openings and reviewed the key principles to achieve a good starting position. After class, there is always time to play variant games against each other to practice the skills we have learned in class in an actual game. Having learned a variety of skills, the students are improving their visualization, tactic, and position skills.
GPA has started a summer camp for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday night. During class, we looked at what the pieces called, how to set up the chessboard, notation, and point values. After class, the students made chess.com accounts and friended each other to make it easier to play games in the future classes.
We will host our next Chess Tournament on July 10, 2021 from 2 to 3 pm EST.
