Throughout the beginning of June, AYLUS Pearland worked together to collect shoes to donate towards Keep Pearland Beautiful’s Shoe Drive. The goal of the shoe drive was to help keep shoes out of landfills. Shoes that were new or gently used were donated to citizens from developing nations. Shoes that were more worn out were recycled. The recycled material such as the rubber from tennis shoes was transferred to factories where new shoes could be made instead of compiling in landfills.
On June 12th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, AYLUS Pearland members brought their donated shoes to the Stella Roberts Recycle Center where they worked together to sort and pack the shoes. The donated shoes were paired together and then put into bags. In total, AYLUS Pearland collected over 350 pairs of shoes, some were brand new, all the rest were in good condition. All the collected shoes from AYLUS will be donated to reuse.
