On May 15, 2021, AYLUS Pearland volunteered at Keep Pearland Beautiful’s Cigarette Cleanup Event from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. At the start of the event, Keep Pearland Beautiful gave volunteers a presentation regarding the procedure of collecting cigarettes as well as spreading awareness of the environmental impact of wrongfully discarding cigarettes. Then, volunteers were divided into small groups and assigned different intersections throughout the Pearland area to clean up and collect cigarette butts. In total, AYLUS Pearland members were able to collect over 2500 cigarette butts and helped clean up debris such as plastic packaging and bags along the side of the roads.
Volunteers that attended were Karen Xu, Eric Qi, Matthew Li, Thomas Liang, Sophia Fu, Kate Liu, Yurui He, Howard She, Fred Guo, and Thomas Feng.
