Phonebanking is an essential tool we use to get out the vote. Reaching out to the Asian American and Pacfic Islander community assures that we are able to mobilize our community so that our needs are represented in every aspect of governance from state and local matters to federal issues.
AYLUS Phoenix signed up to phonebank with Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAvote) on Saturday October 17 from 4 – 6 PM EST. Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) was founded in 2007 with a vision to increase civic engagement among Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). As a national, nonpartisan organization, APIAVote’s mission is to work with local and state community based organizations (CBOs) to mobilize AAPIs in electoral and civic participation.
We used Open Virtual Phonebank. Here was the procedure we follow and carry out phonebanking.
- If needed, please review the training video
- We will be using Open Virtual Phonebank. We recommend you create a google hangout number, you can download the app on your phone or use the web version on the computer. This is to assure that voters do not call you back.
- When you are ready or 5 minutes before your shift, join us on zoom! Please note that our phonebankers will be on there all day. You do not need to join until your shift at 4 PM EST.
- To begin phonebanking, you will want to go onto the van and create an account.
- Go to this specific webpage
- Click “Get started”
- Click “Create Action ID”
- Enter your information and Click Submit
- Once you are logged in, a voter and a script will appear. Feel free to take your time and go through the highlights in the van program.
- Start Dialing!
