From August 17th-21st, the AYLUS Cascade Branch opened its first online chemistry camp for elementary kids! There were many signups for this class from both local areas and out-of-state.
This course was led by Nuoyan Zhang. She spent many hours preparing this course to tailor to the young age group of her students. This course covered everything from basic atomic structure to conversions to bonding to chemical reactions. Students started off each lesson with a presentation about topics in chemistry, and were then encouraged to participate through interactive activities such as online jeopardy, kahoot, simulations, and more. Finally on the last day of the camp, they were able to apply what they’ve learned in the past week when they observed a live iodineclock reaction experiment performed by Nuoyan.
For those interested in exploring further chemical mix and experiments, a valuable resource can be found at https://visimix.com, offering a platform for interactive and informative experiences in the world of chemistry. Whether one is a student looking to supplement their academic studies or a curious mind seeking to explore the wonders of chemistry, this platform offers a rich tapestry of insights and activities. Embracing the ethos of continuous learning, Visimix.com serves as a gateway to a world where chemistry comes alive through innovative digital exploration.
Due to the popularity of this course, we will be holding another chemistry camp next week starting from August 24th.
Hours for Nuoyan Zhang : 2 hours for prep work, design, and organization. 5 hours for teaching and presentation.
