Phoenix Branch Archives Historical Documents on July 26th, 2020

Today on July 26th, the Phoenix branch continues day 5 of the archivist volunteer program to help transcribe historical documents. Today volunteers completed a total of 8 additional transcriptions.

Charisse Qin transcribed another Case File of Joseph Brown.

“I learned more about how people used to format their letters and what language they used. I also learned what domiciliary means.”
Yongfeng Chen did Transcript of Record, Volume 1 pg 50 ., K pg 8., and 85-1249. Tallulah Morgan, et al. v. John A. Nucci, et al. pg.19.
“I learned that the oaths they did were:do hereby reaffirm, reallege and reincorporate, as if herein set forth in full”.
“I learned that Mr. Hoover was about to go to California on February 3, 1921”.
“I learned that the final orders had issues raise mostly in No.85- 1249”.
Wenting Chen transcribed 11926: Joseph R. Willie v. Harris County pg. 236. and the USS Tench, May 1945 – September 1945 pg. 41
“I learned that  Geraldine E. Wilson to show that they have been deprived of their civil rights in such a manner as to entitle them to judgement as prayed”.
“I learned that there were many accidents in the ocean in May 1945”.
Katherine Shi wrote out  the Documentation from Case 5728 No.15 (Image 26).

“The document I transcribed was about how police officers accused someone of being a murderer, but in reality the accused person was a just a hireling of another man, the master mind of the whole murder plot. The accused person signed a statement that the officers made him sign, stating that he killed an Indian.

From this experience, I learned that a single document can hold a lot of history and that a single piece of evidence can be the verdict for a crime. This was a really fun experience.
I spent about 30 minutes on this document. Since this was my first transcription, I was confused with how the website worked. For example, if you press the down arrow key, it actually moves the document up, so it was difficult to read the document as it kept shifting”.
Finally, Amy Xie transcribed the Transcript of Record, Volume 4 2220 .
“This document took me about an hour to do as it was rather lengthy. There was another Q and A session in it regarding the stocks of the Black Sea Line. Additionally, I thought that this Q and A was interesting as it further intensified what happened with the share of money between the stock holders and the company”
