Phoenix Branch Makes Ear Savers to Help Medical Staff with Face Masks in late June 2020

During the second half of June 2020, members of the AYLUS-Phoenix made ear savers for donation to local hospitals and facilities. These ear savers were crocheted in different sizes to account for the different medical personnel who will use them, with buttons sewn on the end. They were made so that doctors and other frontline workers could stretch the bands on face masks to be hung on the buttons on the ear savers instead of their own ears. This is important because their ears are constantly irritated by having elastic bands stretched over them for long work days. In addition, the ear savers are reusable, which will allow these workers to continue using them even if a mask needs to be changed. This event was important because the Phoenix Branch is continually making an effort to serve the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. These ear savers will shortly be delivered to local facilities, and branch members also look forward to continuing this event and making more ear savers for people who need them!

The youth members that participated in this event were Marie Chen (100 ear savers), Michelle Yu (15 ear savers), Katherine Wei (40 ear savers), Katherine Shi (48 ear savers), Amanda Xu (100 ear savers), and Carol Chen (5 ear savers). The adult members who participated in this event were Yueli Liu and Yonglian Wang.
