Recently after the COVID-19 pandemic, many AYLUS members volunteered to teach
students ranging from 2nd to 6th grade in general mathematics. These teachers undertook many
different responsibilities in order to successfully mentor students, including gathering
curriculum, grading homework, and more.
In total, 7 volunteers teach 28 students with classes being conducted once a week. Each
volunteer is responsible for 4 students of a certain grade level. In total, there were 10 weeks of teaching, with each week consisting of a one hour class and time for volunteers to grade homework.
In order to prepare the curriculum, volunteers had to search through
textbooks or create their own material. Some materials include books such as Singapore Intensive Math for grades 2-6. Along with the in-class material, volunteers also had to create and grade homework for each student, which required one to two outside hours from the volunteers. Classes officially started in June and will end in August.
