During the month of April, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held a Youth Tutoring activity online, in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. All tutoring activities are one-on-one and use Skype or Zoom to communicate.
We’ve changed our original tutoring program as libraries have closed due to the pandemic, and meeting students in person is no longer viable. As students need arguably more help during this period of school closures, we are giving kids in our area an opportunity to receive help. The interaction between tutors and students also makes learning more enjoyable.
This time, Faith Huang tutored a 7th grade student over various subjects over Zoom. I helped the student many times, including April 8-10, April 15, 17, 20, 23, 27, and 29. Since I tutored the student multiple times, the student was comfortable talking with me. I taught subjects like math, language arts, social studies, and science. I enjoyed working with the student and helping the student finish school assignments. Although the tutoring was online, the tutoring process had no problems, and the student was able to build a daily school work routine. I felt happy to have established such a smooth connection with the student, and the student’s mom was grateful to me. I also learned from the online tutoring experience and look forward to helping again.
Attendance: Faith Huang (7.5 hours)
