East Cobb Branch Participates in YMCA Lunch Delivery Program December 23, 26,27, 2019
During the week of December 23, 2019, members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.
The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children. The lunches and bags are both donated by different organizations, such as schools and churches.
On Monday, Ken, Delrick, Richard, Albert, and Eileen went to Clifton Ridge and gave out around 65 lunches. All the lunches were handed out, so there were none left over. Most of the children left for home after they received their lunches because it was very windy and cold outside.
On Thursday, Jack, Brian, and Gary went to Hillcrest and gave out about 45 lunches. There were some left over, because there weren’t that many kids there today. Eileen, Ken, and Delrick went to Clifton Ridge and gave out around 45 lunches. The lunches were all given away, and we were even short of a few lunches.
On Friday, Delrick and Jack went to Hillcrest to give out lunches and have a mini Christmas event with the kids. Chick-fil-a provided the lunches today and helped us pack the lunches. At the Christmas event, children would get a gift alongside their lunches. There were lots of fun activities to do, like making ornaments. Chick-fil-a also provided a cow mascot to go to the site and play with the children. Eileen and Ken went to Clifton Ridge and handed out around 75 lunches. A lot of the kids were enthusiastic to come out and receive lunches, and we ran out of lunches very quickly.
Our members participated in the whole process of the program by packing the lunches in paper bags at YMCA beforehand, as well as wrapping gifts for this special Christmas event. They also played ball with one of the children who stayed.
