On Saturday, November 9, AYLUS Pearland partnered with Pearland Parks and Recreation to host the annual Veterans Day Walk/ Hike for Mental Health between Turner High School and the Pearland Recreation Center. The event lasted a total of 4 hours, and many members of the community participated in this event, including many veterans themselves.
The volunteers met up in the recreation center before the beginning of the event and enjoyed a wide sampling of food, from donuts to kolaches to breakfast burritos. About 30 minutes before the walk began, volunteers were stationed at various locations in pairs or in trios to serve as guides for the participants as well as motivational “cheerleaders.” Overall, the event was a great experience to interact with veterans in our community and support a great cause.
Volunteers at this event were Zian Liang, Franklem Peng, Ivy Gong, Karen Xu, Katherine Zhong, Janie Chen, Iris Chen, Janna Cao, and Kathy Liang.
