On Nov 4, 2019, Constellation, a nationwide gas company, formally notified us that our request for funding their Community Champions program was awarded.
Constellation serves customers in 17 states (Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wyoming) and the D.C. area. Constellation customers can apply for small grants (up to $500) through its community champions program. The program seeks to help and improve non-profit organizations or people that seek to benefit their communities.
The East Cobb Branch has explored many opportunities to raise funds – we’ve held several bake sales to sponsor our volunteer events under East Cobb Youth Tutoring, East Cobb Young Musicians, and “Give A Hand”. Michael D Fu, president of the branch and a Constellation Customer, initiated the application process in September on behalf of the branch. In his application essay, he introduced AYLUS, the East Cobb Branch, and focused on the East Cobb Youth Tutoring program. He summarized the achievements in the past two years, described expanding demand from local schools, and explained new curriculums to fulfil those requests.
Constellation gives priority to programs that focus on education, the environment, or our youth. They also want to know a clear goal on which the money will be spent – for East Cobb, that goal was to finance and improve our youth tutoring program. Programs that have a broad influence on the community are also preferred. For more information on Constellation’s Community Champions program and its application time frame/deadlines, please visit https://www.constellation.com/community/community-champions.html As of 2019, all of the deadlines have already passed, but there should be one early next year. As our success opens an opportunity for other branches, we encourage all AYLUS branches to be observant and look for more opportunities to raise funds for their branch.
We would be happy to share our experience with other branches: please contact to us if you have any questions.
