Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) worked at the Plainsboro Public Library on July 14th, 2019, from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm (3.5 hours). The GPA Community Service Team helped out at the “Sensory Extravaganza”, which was an inclusive event open to everyone, but designed especially for children with special needs.
The GPA Community Service Team arrived at the Science Center on the third floor of the library at 12:00 pm. The room was set up to open sensory play from 12:30 pm, and there were some people already waiting for participating in the wide range of activities. Participants got to try different touches, tastes, smells, sights, and sounds at the different interactive stations running by the volunteers. These activities ranged from playing with slime, sand, shaving cream, noodles, rice, and beans to smelling essential oils and to eating uniquely flavored jelly beans.
It was a very interesting Sunday to be able to spend time with little kids and their parents and let them be able to have free range of the exploration of their senses. Using careful guidance and loads of fun, the team was able to bring the local youth community lots of excitement and happiness. Everyone had a great time playing with the materials and exploring their senses! This program, like many of the previous programs, is both interactive and fun for all.
