During the week of (06/03/2019), 11 members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.
The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.
On Monday, 4 members went to Clifton Ridge and gave out 35 lunches. On that day, large amounts of kids came to pick up the lunches and the volunteers played with the kids.
On Tuesday, 2 members went to The Gallery and gave out 30 lunches. Kids slowly came over, and they left as soon as they got their lunches. Everything else was packed to be given to other people in need of food.
On Wednesday, 9 members came to help pack lunches. They were split into three groups, 3 went to Clifton Ridge, 3 went to Dwell, and the rest went to The Gallery. Clifton Ridge was busy, and the volunteers gave out 30 lunches. The volunteers at The Gallery packed around 17 lunches, and the volunteers at Dwell packed around 24 lunches.
On Thursday, 5 members came. 2 went to Bella Grand, 1 went to Dwell, and the others went to The Gallery. Bella Grand was very busy and almost all the lunches were given out. Dwell was slow but kids still showed up.
On Friday, 4 members showed up. They were split into 3 groups. 2 went to The Gallery to help pack lunches. At The Gallery, not many kids showed up and the 2 volunteers gave out around 10 lunches. However, the volunteers had fun playing with the kids.
Our members participated in the whole process of the program by actively helping out to set up tables and organizing the kids into lines as they come and pick up the lunches. We also packed most of the lunches. The volunteers feel extremely accomplished and proud that they were able to contribute to the community and they had a great time with the staff and the kids.
