On November 17, 2018, members from the East Cobb branch of AYLUS performed music for seniors at the Phoenix and Sterling senior centers in East Cobb for two hours. Although shorthanded for some time, the members gave a great performance, which the seniors thoroughly enjoyed. The performers played a variety of pieces, ranging from classical to contemporary. The instruments were also varied and included violin, flute, trumpet, and piano. While playing more well-known songs, like “You Raise Me Up,” some of the seniors would sing or hum along. Our performance also included a violin duet.
After the performances, some of the seniors came to us and personally congratulated us. It’s quite empowering to know that our music can make another person’s day better, even if just for a bit. Normally, we would never have had a chance to meet and communicate with these seniors, but through music, we are able to. All in all, both the performers and the seniors enjoyed the performances.
Member who participated were: Howard Hua (2 hours), David Qu (2 hours), Isabel Zhou (2 hours), Jay Pan (2 hours), Michael Fu (2 hours), Raymond Jiang (1 hour), Cynthia Ruan (1 hour), Max Jiang (1 hour)
