On Saturday, September 15, the East Cobb Young Musicians performed for two and half hours at local senior centers Sunrise Senior Living and Arbor Terrace. Since the new school year has recently started, the team will try to perform once a month, and plan to have multiple performances during the holiday season.
As the new school year started, some changes happened in the branch, the Rules of Each Cobb Branch has been released after several rounds of discussion and review by team members and parents.
Raymond Jiang, the president of the branch summarized the events members participated, he encouraged members be more involving in the projects with our knowledge and skills. Michael Fu, the vice president of the branch explained the rules and announce the new leadership executives of the branch before we started the performance.
Per rules, there are a few leadership and executive positions open to qualified team members. After reviewing applications, Susanna Huang contributed over 50 volunteer hours and Cynthia Ruan contributed over 45 hours as of the end of Aug. They both were promoted as vice president of the branch. Kevin Shen help initiate and coordinate East Cobb Youth Tutoring program, he was promoted as public relations officer. All executives are exciting about their new roles and would like to work harder to improve the branch.
There were a variety of performances ranging from solos to duets, to even a quintet, and involved multiple instruments such as the clarinet, flute, violin, and many more. The musicians were greeted with trilled reactions when popular songs such as the National Anthem and Hallelujah were played.
Opening and closing statements were given out by Howard Hua, Susanna Huang and Rachel Li, at Sunrise and Arbor respectfully. The young musicians were welcomed with warm smiles and lovely compliments. Having hosted the performances in these homes before, the activities directors already prepared areas for them to unpack, practice, and perform.
The room was soon filled with bright sounds, then mournful longing, and boasting pride. The atmosphere created was comforting and warm. Both parties found enjoyment from the beautiful music being played, feeling connected by a common interest. After the performance, the senior residents chatted with team members and asked us to come again soon, “It is our commitment to serve for seniors, definitely we will come at least once a month.” One of our member responded.
