This week, July 9 through 13, 10 members of the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS helped pack lunches to children who normally got a meal from schools.

On July 9th, 2018, 4 members spent 2 hours helping serve lunch to kids at the YMCA Summer Lunch Outreach Program. The students packed and served nutritious meals and refreshing drinks for kids at Belle Grand Apartments even though it was hot and toasty.

On July 10th, 2018, 3 members volunteered to do lunch packing at Garden Terrace apartments. They packed lunches and left, not many people are at Garden Terrace.

On July 11th, 2018, 5 members spent 2 hours serving lunch for people. The members all gathered at Garden Terrace. After packing the lunches, the members played together at the playground with other kids. The members played tag with a ball, trying to shoot ice cubes and pinecones into a trash can (Like basketball), and catch with a ball. In the end, not many people came so we had leftovers that we gave a large family that helps distribute the meals.

The members served PB&J sandwiches, applesauce, celery, chocolate milk, ranch, and broccoli. Altogether it makes a balance lunch. Sometimes extras of one type was also served. It was hot and humid and many mosquitos swarmed everyone.

On July 12th, 2018, 3 members spent 2 hours giving lunches to people. The 3 members went to The View 75 Apartments and gave free summer meals to people. Unlike the other places The View 75 has a lot of kids and the packed lunches ran out very quickly. There was a lot of hula-hoops and balls, but sadly none of the kids wanted to play. In total 47 lunches were packed for the kids and adults.

The members served sandwiches, condiments, ice cream, chocolate milk, ranch, carrots, and beans. Surprisingly, it was not very hot and it even had a little breeze.

On July 13th, 2018, 5 members volunteered to do lunch packing at Clifton Ridge apartments. Lunches were packed into bags with two lunches per bag. However, this system caused the members to run out of lunches as more people than expected came to get a lunch.

All the meals were served, and they contained carrots, broccoli, crackers, nuts, applesauce, cheese sticks, yogurt, and milk. The day was overcast and cool.

The members who participated were, Selina Huang (2 hours), Susanna Huang (2 hours), Maxwell Jiang(4 hours), Jay Pan (6 hours) , Cynthia Ruan (8 hours), Kevin Shen(6 hours) , Cody Wang(2 hours), Eric Wang(2 hours), Jonathan Wang(6 hours), Franklin Zhao(2 hours).
