On Feb 03, 2018, three 8th grade students of East Cobb Mathletes won trophies at 2018 Mathcounts Competition–Cobb Chapter. Justin Zhou (8th of Dodgen MS) won 1st in individual, countdown, and team rounds. Asad Yamin (8th of Dodgen MS) ranked 1st in team round, and 3rd in individual, countdown rounds. Diane Chen (8th of Dickerson MS) ranked 4th in individual round. Those 3 students will advance to the State Competition in Mar. As the founder and the president of East Cobb Branch and East Cobb Mathletes, Raymond Jiang congratulated the students and is very proud of their achievement. He is very happy to see the training helps and feels more confident to continue and enhance the mathletes classroom.
Raymond Jiang founded the East Cobb Mathletes since August 2016, volunteered to tutor 6th- 8th grade students every Friday after school (school year). He spends 4 hours a week, and carefully selected topics after assessing audience’s level, designed class practice problems and organized group discussion. The class is full of fun, laughs and challenges. He and Russel Emetine shared with those student on their failure and success on math study road and their experience in high school.
The mission of this program is to inspire and motivate students with the desire to learn actively, and build up their academic potential in STEM. In addition, the service also helps tutors to get a better understanding of the materials that he/she teaches. The experience benefits to both tutors and the students. It is a mutual enjoying progress.
East Cobb Mathletes made a great achievement since the establishment, they attended several state qualified math competitions, those middle students beat high school freshmen and sophomore and won titles in JV level competitions.
