On May 15th, the Metro Detroit Branch successfully completed the Book Drive event!
Over 1,200 books were collected and donated to Deaf C.A.N., a non-profit organization
which provides services to thousands of deaf and hard-of-hearing people living in the
metro Detroit area.
During the months of April and May, the Metro Detroit Branch members distributed
flyers around their neighborhood, collected book donations, and gathered together to
sort, count, and deliver the books. They also set up boxes at the Great Detroit Chinese
School and received donations from the Chinese school students and parents. The
participants were David Nie, Spencer Liu, Freddie Zhao, Jason Nie, Elayni Liu, James
Li, Jeremy Liu, Edison Chiu, Daniel Kong, Forrest Yang, and Ethan Chen.
The members were able to communicate with the staff at Deaf C.A.N. through
translation using sign language. The Metro Detroit Branch hopes that this event has
helped raise awareness and provided a great experience for its members.
