AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch African Library Project Book Drive (08/22/2026)

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, AYLUS Oakland Gardens held its 251st volunteer event by participating in the African Library Project (ALP) 2026 Country Book Drive. Our goal was to collect 500 new or gently used books for the Libibing Primary Library in Lesotho, Africa.

To reach this goal, our young volunteers actively encouraged their family members, relatives, and friends to donate books. Some volunteers collected books from their own bookshelves and donated books they had already finished reading, while others reached out to people around them to ask for additional donations. After successfully collecting 500 books, volunteers gathered to sort, organize, and prepare the books for shipment.

This project gave our young volunteers an opportunity to share the joy of reading with children in another part of the world. Through their efforts, they learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, communication, generosity, and community service.

Every donated book represents a small act of kindness, and together, our 500 books can provide valuable learning and reading opportunities for children at Libibing Primary School. This activity reminded us that even a simple contribution can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
