On September 10, 2026, the AYLUS Great Neck branch went to the Nissequogue greenhouse, helping with general maintenance and housekeeping tasks around the greenhouse. During the session volunteers helped out with organizing and sorting different seeds as well as helping with smaller tasks to keep the greenhouse organized.
Volunteers help with removing old plant labels and replacing them with new ones to ensure they were all properly updated, ready for usage. Volunteers also helped with sorting different plant seeds. With the help of a sifter, they isolated the seeds from the plants and organized them into small envelopes before labeling them all, arranging them in a way that would be most efficient to use in the future. Volunteers worked diligently and efficiently to get their tasks finished, while helping to maintain an organized greenhouse environment.
Although the work was less physically demanding than previous activities volunteers have participated in, it was still a meaningful experience. Through these small tasks, volunteers were able to see how even small maintenance roles can contribute to the organization of the greenhouse, which can help people work more efficiently in the future.
