On April 26th, 2026, the AYLUS Roslyn branch volunteered as teacher assistants at the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time, we supported the teachers and helped students through classroom activities.
As teacher assistants, our job is to reduce the teacher’s workload and give students extra guidance throughout the class. At the beginning of class, we greet our teachers and students, hand out worksheets, and help students unpack their bags. Throughout the class, we answer any questions, collect and hand out worksheets, and take the children to the restroom when necessary. After class, we take the students to their culture classes, including art, calligraphy, yoga, dance, martial arts, and yo-yo. By taking on these responsibilities, we ease the job of the teachers and create a more supportive and engaging learning environment for students.
On this particular day, we had an Open House for parents and incoming students. Tri-fold presentation boards were set up in front of classrooms, and many students gave performances to showcase the various activities and programs offered here.
Overall, volunteering as teacher assistants gives us valuable life experience and allows us to learn responsibility and teamwork. Taking on the role and duties of a teacher assistant teaches us the importance of compassion and patience.
