Chapel Hill Branch Volunteers at Glenwood Elementary School’s STEAM Night on March 25, 2026

On March 25, 2026, two members of the Chapel Hill Branch of AYLUS volunteered at Glenwood Elementary School during their STEAM Night, where they showcased drones to inspire younger students’ interest in technology.
The volunteers arrived more than half an hour early to deliver drone equipment, set up tables, and prepare the drone station before the event began. One volunteer demonstrated the drone and taught students how to operate it for aerial tasks, explaining how to control its movements with precision and guiding the students through steps to complete aerial challenges. The other volunteer helped line the students up and reset the drone-controlled balls used in a hands-on activity. This involved ensuring the balls were properly placed in their starting positions and ready for use.
After the event concluded, the volunteers stayed late to collect the drone equipment, clean up the classroom, and ensure everything was properly reset.
The event was a great success, with parents, students, and teachers expressing excitement and enthusiasm about the hands-on experience. It provided a fantastic opportunity to engage the community and spark curiosity in STEAM fields.
Volunteers who participated in this event were Alwin Liu (2.5 hours) and Kayla Lin (2.5 hours).
