On February 7th, six AYLUS volunteers helped pack meals at Feed My Starving Children. After the orientation—which included a safety video and instruction video—volunteers across several organizations were divided up into groups according to our organization. Then, we’d move into the next room consisting of five tables where volunteers would package MannaPack—a scientifically formulated nutritional meal. There could be fifteen people to one table number, which itself was divided into two tables. Every volunteer would choose their own roles (except for sealing, which only adults could do). Two did scooping, two did bagging, two did weighing, two (adults) did sealing, and one person would pack the bags into a box (for both tables). Since we only had six people, we met and worked with other volunteers that were not part of AYLUS; however, we happily integrated them as part of our group. Through cooperation and communication, AYLUS volunteers were able to quickly power through the 2-hour session. In total (with other volunteers), we packed 124 boxes and 26,784 meals for kids in war-torn or economically underdeveloped countries, helping sustain Feed My Starving Children’s mission in year-long sustenance for these children. Thus, we make sure to lay down food as the foundation so that these kids can grow up without worrying about hunger. Good work, volunteers!
