Every year there is a celebration of rich culture of China in the heart of the nation’s capital. This year marked 23rd annual celebration. The festival will feature traditional music, dance, performances, art exhibitions, Kungfu, tea, cosplay, Peking opera, and authentic Chinese cuisine. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture and connect with the local community.
Mclean Branch joined the volunteer team for helping some festival activities . As volunteers, we were able to enjoy both the foods and stands at this parade while volunteering and helping out. For a majority of the festival, there was a long parade that included over 50+ representatives with their flags and posters. As volunteers, we helped direct them in the right direction and keep the parade moving. At the end of the parade, many of them were interested in team photos, which one of our volunteers held a sign that lead them in the right direction and location. It was spectacular to see how this culture can be brought in the capital of this country!
The following participants that volunteered in this festival are: Sarah Tao (1.5 hours), Emma Tao (1.5 hours), and Emma Zhang (1.5 hours) and the festival lasted from 11:00 am to 12: 30 pm.
