On October 26th, 2024, the Great Neck branch of AYLUS volunteered at Parkville library to read AAPI-themed picture books to children and to organize arts and crafts activities. The volunteers read Piper Chen Sings, Night Market Rescue, and Bilal Cooks Daal. The stories intrigued the children and taught them lessons about cultural pride, empathy, and learning to overcome fear. After the reading session, volunteers set up the arts and crafts stations for decorating pumpkins, modeling clay, beading necklaces, and drawing. A common favorite among the volunteers and children was decorating the pumpkins since it allowed them to express their creativity and helped foster the Halloween spirit. Overall, it was a very cheerful, productive, and fun session for all attending or helping.
