AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families through NOSH delivers! Food Pantry (33rd) on October 14, 2024

On monday October 14th, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm volunteers from Aylus Roslyn Branch worked at Nosh Food Delivery. Nosh is a non-profit organization, which delivers food and drinks to those in need.

When we arrived, we helped NOSH bag their food in order to give them out to those in need. All five of us worked together putting the packaged goods such as: canned beans, canned sardines, lemon water, and rice, into a bag that would be given out to those in need. We then separated the vegetables and fruits because some of them were molding and rotten. After doing these tasks, the older and more experienced volunteers asked us to help them with restocking goods on their shelf. By doing so, the workers thanked us for being so helpful and so efficient since we completed our task quickly and efficiently. Our volunteering aided in the work of the other employees at NOSH by cutting down the total amount of work they had to do.

Although the work was clear and easy, there were also some challenges we faced. For example, some shoppers spoke Spanish and other different languages, making it hard for us to communicate with them. To solve this problem, we were patient with each other and used general hand signs to suggest things to them. In addition, it was also hard to identify if some fruits and vegetables were molding or rotten. To solve this issue we asked each other what we thought and then experts to ensure the safety of the fruit and vegetable. Due to these problems, some skills that may have made this job easier can be being fluent in multiple languages, especially spanish, and more knowledge with fruits and vegetables since what may seem good may actually be bad.

I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at NOSH because I was able to make friends with customers and the employees at NOSH making the experience enjoyable and fun. Our experience of volunteering has made us realize how important it is to help those in need. It was an honor to help elders who were unable to carry their own goods and others in need at NOSH. This was definitely an experience to remember and I will definitely consider volunteering here in the future.
