This is the 63rd event hosted by AYLUS Oakland Gardens on April 9, 2024 in Oakland Gardens Playground. We had fun watching the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, however, after the eclipse we had no use left for the glasses we had used to watch the eclipse with. Our parent advisor figured out we could donate to Latin Americans because they haven’t watched the eclipse yet and will have the opportunity to do so soon. Donating to the Latin Americans would also protect the earth, due to reusing the glasses, and enable children to see this wonderful natural wonder at the same time.
Since our group has a lot of parents/legal guardians in AYLUS, the parents sent out flyers to school teachers to gather support and eclipse glasses. Many teachers saw the flyers and donate as well as helping us gather more donation. They help send our email to the school and other parents to gather more donations. They also told us that they would put a donation box in a visible area to allow for easy access.
Our members then went to Oakland Gardens Playground to put up a table and flyers for anyone who wishes to donate. The weather was very hot but our members continued to ask people to donate. Many people wanted to donate, but they forgot to bring their glasses. So, they said they would give the glasses to their kids to put in the donation box to help support.
We’d like to thank everyone who donated to us and contributed, every single pair of glasses they donate goes to one more child who would see the beauty of the eclipse just like we did.
