On January 7, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch dedicated their time to help out the Stewards, also called the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Because of the activity of AYLUS’ contributions, hard work, and dedication to the parks, our efforts were recognized and appreciated, designating our special mention in the seminar we attended. The Stewards also discussed future aspirations and changes to the environment. They wanted more people to join in on “Trout Wednesdays,” “Stewardship Saturdays” (removing invasive species, and assisting in planting native and endangered species), “Garden Group,” “Festival Folk,” and “Coastal Crawlers.” Volunteers understood the impact of their work as the Stewards listed off many of the major events that took place (63 total) and saw other events they could join in to benefit the community. Due to the variety and various events that the Stewards has planned, they decided to encompass their organization under a larger umbrella called the CORE (Community Organizing for Restoring the Environment). Furthermore, we learned about fishing baits and helped the park create fishing baits. These fishing baits were for the seniors of the community, so they would be able to easily participate in their recreational activity of fishing
