In June 2026, volunteers from the AYLUS San Diego Branch participated in the Cranes for a Cure event at the Home Arts & Hobbies Exhibit Hall during the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar.
During the event, our volunteers taught visitors how to fold simple origami cranes while sharing facts about childhood cancer and Joey’s Wings’ mission to support children and families affected by cancer. The origami crane symbolizes hope and healing, making it a meaningful way to raise awareness while engaging visitors of all ages.
Throughout the event, volunteers patiently demonstrated each step of the origami process, answered questions, and encouraged children and families to create their own paper cranes. They also introduced visitors to Joey’s Wings and explained how the Cranes for a Cure campaign raises awareness and supports children battling cancer.
This volunteer opportunity helped our members strengthen their communication, teaching, and leadership skills while making a positive impact in the community. By interacting with visitors from different backgrounds, our volunteers learned the importance of educating others and using creativity to support a meaningful cause.
AYLUS San Diego is proud to partner with organizations like Joey’s Wings that make a difference in the lives of children and families. We look forward to continuing our support through future community service opportunities.
The following volunteers got 3.5 community service volunteer hours:
