SMILE 4 Special Needs (#273): Volunteers Support LSA Summer SMILE Camp for Special Needs (#134) on June 5, 2026

On June 5, 2026, Pearland volunteers assisted staff in providing engaging life-skills, recreational, and sports activities for campers attending the 2026 LSA Summer Camp at the Special Needs Caring Center.

Throughout the day, volunteers provided individualized support to help participants practice reading and writing skills using pencils and paper. They also introduced campers to the card game UNO, teaching game rules and encouraging social interaction, turn-taking, and strategic thinking through play. In addition, volunteers guided participants in completing puzzles, helping to strengthen problem-solving abilities, concentration, and fine motor skills.
In the afternoon, volunteers encouraged participants to engage in physical activity through table tennis. The activity promoted hand-eye coordination, motor development, focus, and confidence while providing opportunities for social engagement and friendly competition.

Through these meaningful activities, participants strengthened academic, cognitive, social, and motor skills while building independence and enjoying a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Assistant Instructors (6.5 hours):  Caroline Fu, Dwayne Li-Williams, Wilson Gao, Sean Luan
