On Monday, June 8, at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, members of the Great Neck branch of AYLUS gathered at the Great Neck house to assist with the accessible art program. (22th)
The accessible art program helps children and young adults with disabilities explore their creativity and imagination through art of all different kinds. Each week, the students do a different project with multiple steps. Not something that limits their creativity like a coloring book. All of the students are age 16 and above.
This program allows students to put away their personal life and let loose and draw. It lets the students socialize with people outside of school.
This week, students finished up their 2 week long project for Fathers Day. Volunteers and students decorated photo frames with stickers, beads, and markers. We used both wooden ones decorated with markers and plastic ones, where we used tacky glue to glue small, colorful beads onto it. We also made cards for Father’s Day with an assortment of supplies. We used stamps, washi tape, markers, and colored pencils.
