On Saturday, February 28, PROMIS/AYLUS Pearland proudly supported the West Pearland Library in hosting the 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration. As one of the largest annual events at the library, both the library staff and PROMIS/AYLUS members held several planning meetings in the months leading up to the event to ensure its success.
PROMIS/AYLUS youth volunteers played a central leadership role by designing and operating a variety of engaging cultural booths. These included calligraphy writing, face painting, a chopsticks ping pong challenge, a traditional costume photo booth, origami, fishing games, and a lively dragon dance performance.
The fishing game booth served not only as a fun cultural activity but also as a meaningful outreach opportunity. Through this interactive station, volunteers actively introduced and promoted My Play Club and SMILE Pearland—community programs dedicated to fostering inclusive play, learning, and social engagement for children with special needs. By sharing program information and engaging families in conversation, volunteers helped raise awareness and encouraged broader community support for inclusive initiatives in Pearland.
Children visiting the library received beautiful cultural gifts and hong bao (red envelopes) symbolizing good luck and prosperity. They also received a cute horse-themed card in celebration of the Year of the Horse after visiting all the booths.
The event was a tremendous success. Visitors of all ages thoroughly enjoyed the activities, with long lines forming at nearly every booth. Many guests stayed to watch the dragon dance performance twice, filling the library with excitement and festive spirit.
