Sunday, September 27th the Roslyn Branch took an active role in hosting a school supply collection to benefit families and children. This collection was in partnership with Community Solidarity, an organization that works to deliver free food and other resources to families across Long Island and New York City.
Throughout the event we gathered many types of school supplies such as looseleaf paper notebooks folders, glue sticks and art supplies.Overall, we collected 6 bags of supplies to be donated to Community Solidarity. As many families with children in our community use Community Solidarity, school supplies are very necessary, most of all at the start of a new school term. By donating supplies we wanted to provide students with supplies for the upcoming school year and save their families money.
While one may think that donating school supplies is a minor contribution, it can truly be beneficial for families whose expenses make it difficult to buy the needed school supplies. We learned that it is best to help others and give back to our community and that some of the supplies we have on hand but no longer use are still important to others. We plan on participating in more donation drives in the future to continue aiding families and students!
