Raritan Valley Branch Participated in a Fish Survey at Keyport, NJ, on July 9, 2023

On July 9th, 2023, the members of the AYLUS Raritan Valley Branch volunteered at a beach in Keyport for Fish Survey to catch different species of marine wildlife and study them. There were three groups: The first group carried the wide fishing net and steadily went deeper into the water. After the water reached up to their waist, they stopped moving forward and planted the net down for a moment to catch fish. After a while, they dragged the net toward the shore, and the second group went to retrieve the net together, putting it on shore for the third and final group to collect all the marine life in the net into buckets of water. The last group also were responsible for conducting tests and observations on the caught marine life, before releasing them back into the waters. Overall, it was a very fun and educational experience that we got since it felt satisfying to catch new and unique animals that we had never seen before. Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to get their hands a little wet, and we hope we will have another chance to participate in a fish survey next year!
