The AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Ed White Elementary school in Houston, Texas on March 4, 2023, from 9am to 12pm.
Volunteers were given the opportunity to tutor small groups of third-grade primary school students in the school cafeteria following the curriculum given by the teachers. With the Texas STAAR test coming up, the students were guided through math review worksheets that covered topics that had been introduced to them earlier in the year. Once the instructional curriculum was completed, the students were also guided by the volunteers through the online activities assigned by their teacher to further their development in English and language arts. Finally, volunteers had the opportunity to organize simple educational games based on the equipment provided by the schools to help nurture a knowledgeable yet interactive environment.
There were five volunteers that participated in the volunteer activity (total 4 hours including 1 hour of commute): Jason Chen, Joshua Cheng, Angelina Hoang, Hannah Hsu, and Emerald Tang.
